Last week, the Nordic finals of Diageo World Class cocktail competition took place in Copenhagen when a total of 27 determined bartenders competed against each other to grab a spot in the global finals in July.

The first two challenges were held at Holmens Kanal Cocktailbar – after which the majority of the bartenders were eliminated by the celebrity jury (Erik Lorincz, The Savoy , Alex Kratena, Artesian and Marian Beke, Nightjar to name a few) and only six of them qualified for day two. Those lucky competitors, who obviously not only know how to make great drinks but also possess creativity, showmanship and steady nerves, were Kasper Riewe Henriksen (Duck and Cover), Hardeep Singh Rehal (1105), Jesper Høst (No. 19), Christian Kruse (Bristol Bar), Rikard Enell (Taverna Brillo) and Karl-Martin Edin (Rex Bar).

Day two, the remaining competitors could be found at Hotel d’Angleterre to settle which one of the two bartenders from Sweden, Denmark and Norway who would be sent to represent his country in the global finals. In the end, the jury decided that these three fine gentlemen will be best equipped to face the rest of the world in July:

Hardeep Singh Rehal (1105 – also crowned Nordic champion after winning a speed challenge)
Jesper Høst (No. 19)
Rikard Enell (Taverna Brillo)

Congratulations and good luck! You’ll definitely need it, as 47 other bartenders from around the world will join you for the global finals in the UK later this year. Matteo Fantacchiotti, ‎Global Commercial Director, DIAGEO RESERVE, says, “World Class is a true celebration of the world’s best bartenders and fine-drinking experiences. From small beginnings in London, to international hot spots in Athens, New Delhi, Rio de Janeiro and the high seas of the Mediterranean; this year, we are proud to see World Class return to Great Britain, paying homage to its origins and showcasing its evolution into the world’s leading bartender event. Come July 2014, our guests will experience the best of Scotland and our Scotch whisky portfolio and will then be taken on-board the luxurious World Class Express to London. Arriving into St Pancras International and capturing the spirit of the environment to introduce fresh influences and inspiration, our bartenders will take over a platform to compete in World Class Live – a once-in-a-lifetime experiential challenge in front of consumers and luxury travellers.”
