|Gran Tai Roa Ae at Scandic Grand Central|
The area around Stockholm central station could use some more good cocktail bars, and now there’s at least one more thanks to the opening of the hotel Scandic Grand Central (Kungsgatan 70). On the ground floor there’s a bar and bistro, and one level up is another smaller bar where you can find live music several nights a week. As always, though, my focus is on drinks, and the cocktail list is ambitious and intriguing. It’s divided into classics, reworked classics and signature cocktails and is pretty varied. Unfortunately, I didn’t have the time to try them all… However, I can recommend Clockwiser which contains vanilla- and raisin-infused dark rum, fig jam, lime juice and vanilla bitters. Gran Tai Roa Ae is an interesting version of Mai Tai, with dark rum, grand marnier, lime juice, bitters, simple syrup, creme violette and egg white. If you feel adventurous, try the Cottage Martini and you’ll be treated with vodka, creme de cacao, hazelnut liqueur, cream cheese and red onion!
|Widow’s Kiss at Berns Bistro Bar|
Berns Bistro Bar (Berzelii Park) is not a new bar, but yesterday they reopened with a new concept. From now on, they will be more about cocktails than before, and behind the bar you’ll find Ola “Topsy” Carlson. If I understood correctly, they will focus on classics, offering approximately five cocktails on a constantly changing list. During my visit I tried Amer biére – amer picon, orange bitters and lager… and Widow’s Kiss – calvados, benedictine, yellow chartreuse and bitters. Recommended!
