On April 12 the ninth annual Cocktailkamp cocktail competition finals took place at a packed Café Opera here in Stockholm. 76 bartenders representing 38 bars had been competing against each other every Sunday in March around Sweden, but in the end there were only nine bars left: Bernie’s, Café Opera, Kommendören, Pharmarium, Marie Laveau, Pùblico, Tures, Tweed and Zink Grill.
During the evening, the bartenders faced three challenges – knowledge, creative cocktail and speed – all including Absolut Elyx and/or Tabasco hot sauce in one way or another. I was very impressed to see the ambition all participating teams put into their performances, from the beautiful and inventine cocktail presentations to their fancy, outrageous outfits.
After a few hours of great fun and lots of cocktails it was time for the members of the jury to announce the winners. According to them, all bars performed very well in general, but it was in the speed challenge one bar stood out from the others – and it was Marie Laveau, represented by Hedda Bruce and Mattias Borg – who won the title “Sweden’s best bar” and 30,000 SEK – congratulations!
