Yesterday evening, ten more or less nervous bartenders competed against each other at Och himlen därtill in Stockholm for the honour of representing Sweden internationally in the Bacardi Legacy Cocktail Competition. The venue was packed with people cheering to encourage the contestants, who had seven minutes each to impress the celebrity judges Ian Burrell (international rum ambassador), Joerg Meyer (Le Lion, Hamburg), Richard “Chille” Man (Bacardi brand ambassador) and Jimmie Hulth (Häktet, last year’s winner of the Swedish finals).
All contestants did a good job with their presentations, and I think that if it was up to the audience to choose the winner, it would probably be Emil Åreng who was very funny and inventive with his coctail, including among other things cigar smoke infused rum, cloudberry jam and angelica syrup. However, it’s not all about the presentation – you need a killer cocktail too – and in the end the judges decided that the bartender who will represent Sweden is none other than Boudy Ghostine, bar manager at Miss Voon in Stockholm. To cut to the chase, here’s his winning drink for you to enjoy!
30 ml Bacardí Superior
30 ml Bacardí Gold
25 ml lime juice
35 ml homemade cola syrup
1 barspoon PX sherry
10 ml egg white
Put all ingredients in a shaker, and use a milk frother to create a nice foam. Add ice and shake, strain into a chilled cocktail glass.
