Auchentoshan Switch cocktail competition in Stockholm

On August 29 I attended the Swedish qualifying round of the Auchentoshan Switch cocktail competition at Kåken here in Stockholm. A number of Sweden’s best bartenders competed against each other to win a spot at the European finals and the possibility of a two week internship at renowned New York cocktail bar Dead Rabbit Grocery & Grog.

Tony Comas after winning the competition

In the end, it was Tony Comas (who worked at Häktet at the time of the competition) who impressed the judges the most, with his cocktail making skills. Here’s his winning recipe:

Lowlands and Bounds
45 ml Auchentoshan Three Wood
10 ml Benedictine
10 ml Raspberry cordial*
7,5 ml Oloroso sherry
5 dashes Bitter Truth aromatic bitters

Pour all ingredients in a mixing glass, stir long enough to get a good dilution (depends on your ice) and strain into a rock glass, over ice cube. Then, wide lemon zest squeeze over the top of the drink to release the oil (dont over do it) and use it as a garnish.

*Raspberry cordial
125 g fresh raspberries
75 ml water
75 g white sugar powder
juice and zest of 1/2 lemon
2 star anise

Cook all ingredients together on medium heat until the raspberries are dissolved. Allow to cool down and add a good quality raspberry vinegar (possibility to substitute with balsamic vinegar)

The European finals took place in London about two weeks ago, but unfortunately Tony didn’t make it all the way
